What's the difference between traditional and infrared saunas?

Traditional saunas warm the air around you to 175–195°F using a heated stove and optional steam, creating a classic, high-heat experience. Infrared saunas use light wavelengths to gently heat the body at lower air temperatures (120–150°F), offering a different style of warmth that many find comfortable for longer sessions. Hybrid saunas combine both approaches, giving you the flexibility to enjoy either experience depending on your preference.

What are the wellness benefits of an infrared sauna?

Improved circulation, faster muscle recovery, deeper sleep, lower cortisol, and supported detoxification. Infrared specifically has been studied for joint pain relief, skin health, and parasympathetic nervous system regulation.

What space and electrical requirements are there?

Most indoor saunas require a 240V outlet on a dedicated circuit, although some smaller infrared models can run on a standard 120V connection. Traditional indoor saunas typically use an electric heater and may also require planning for proper ventilation and, in some cases, a floor drain depending on how they’re used.

Wood-burning sauna options may be available as well, which can reduce electrical needs but require proper chimney ventilation and clearance.
